As December rolled around, I started to stock pile bottles of wine for the house. I knew I’d need them for a present and for parties, and to be honest -- for me.
I was standing in the store putting my selection in my cart happily thinking – “one for them, one for me….one for them, one for me….” By the time I was finished, I had an abundant mix or reds and whites – five were set aside for said events and gifts – and five were set aside to hold me over for the month.
When I got up to the counter, the woman at the register began to ring up my order. She didn’t bat an eyelash at how many bottles I was buying at once. She simply assumed that they were for others or a special occasion. I knew this because she asked me if I wanted them all wrapped.
Feeling embarrassed that literally half of my lot was to drown myself, I told her yes – all the bottles could be wrapped.
And each time I stood in my PJs, in my kitchen with no plans of company, and loosened the bow on the metallic wrapping around the vino just for me, I toasted a “Merry Christmas” wish to myself. And enjoyed each guiltless sip of the gift - from me to me.
Now that is what I call holiday cheer!!
